A new anchor for Anderson Cooper 360

Kiran Chetry Joins CNN as Anchor and Correspondent

Kiran Chetry, former Fox News anchor, has joined CNN as an anchor and correspondent, it was announced today by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. Chetry, who will be based in the network’s New York bureau, appeared this morning on American Morning and will be anchoring Anderson Cooper360° tonight from 10 p.m. to midnight (ET).

“We have been interested in Kiran for a long time,” Klein said. “She is experienced and energetic – a perfect addition to the CNN family. We could not be more pleased that she could begin immediately.”

“CNN is the gold standard when it comes to journalism, and I am thrilled to be part of the team,” Chetry said.

Chetry began her journalism career at News 21 in Rockville, Md., in 1995 before moving to WICU-TV in Erie, Penn., to become an anchor and health reporter. At WICU-TV, she earned the Best Enterprise Reporting award from the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association in 1997 for “Young and Hooked,” a series about teen smoking. She then served as a morning anchor and reporter for KXTV in Sacramento, Calif., before joining Fox News in 2001.

During her time at Fox News, Chetry covered major breaking news stories including reporting from the field during the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and anchoring during the Columbia Space Shuttle disaster, the invasion of Baghdad and Hurricane Katrina.

ARE THEY SERIOUS?

I'm one of the people always complaining about John Roberts, but Kiran? why didn't they give this opportunity to Erica? This probably means Anderson won't be sitting at the anchor desk a lot, but KIRAN?!!!

I don't like her already....

I am with you sharla. She was the one anchor who kept referring to the Katrina victims as "REFUGEES" each time she made mention of them on the news.

Wow, this is a surprise. I don't really know her, I read on tvnewser about her porssible departure from fox. But just looking at her bio in this post --I don't get it, where they're going with this? Is it part of their war with Fox? They have JR, JK, Tom Foreman, ANY of their corrs. If they want a female, they have Erica, or even give Randy or a shot.

I agree with all of you. Perhaps this is a test for her. The AC fans don't tolerate any crap so if she can please us, well, then she's doing good. Gives me something to look forward to during this evening's broadcast. Well...time for Happy Hour...later

I do NOT like this woman, at all. In the first thirty seconds, she manages to insult the host of the show? She doesn't know how to stand, she's squinting at the teleprompter, and she's acting like she belongs on the set. Hello, lady, no one knows (or cares) who you are, and you're not funny. You insulted Anderson. Go fall down the stairs already.

That was her introduction on a FIRST day at the new channel, new show as a SUB? Oh, boy. Faux school. Trouble.

I, too, would have preferred Randi Kaye.

I forgot about Erica...she has been gone so long. I don't think they would use her since she is not in NYC.

I dont like her at all...I don't think Anderson was impressed either. At some instances he kind of ignored her!!! LOL...

I hope they send her to do Rick Sanchez's stories...LOL I rather see him hosting, he does such a great job on Saturdays!

I didn't get the connection with Kiran until I watched tonight's AC360 and then I realized that she was the chick from Faux News morning that always annoyed me.

Perhaps David Doss should get behind the camera and host....it would allow him to see the show from another angle...

or Klein, even better.

I wonder who she did at CNN to get this job? Terrible. If I were Anderson I'd be pissed off too. Oh wait, I'm not Anderson and I am pissed.

And by the way, hello again :)

Hey Jade! Are you back or just visiting?

Anonymous said...

okay, all us serious people hate her. What do the gushers on the tard blogs make of her? I'm not brave enough to look. Those other blogs freak me out.

Hey JR! Just visiting, stopping in to give my occasional two cents...lol.

Sharla...I love the description of "tard blogs", made me chuckle.
