Ready to chat?

Hi everyone!
Sorry I've been very busy lately, we just installed a chat room at the blog (to your right!) It is very easy to use and while I get my act together Ivy will be your chat host. We will be scheduling some get togethers in order to be able to gossip and have a good time. Let us know the best timing for it. Live chat during 360? Lunchs? give us a shout.

I always thought a live chat during 360 is great idea, many blog visitors watch it regularly anyway. And now you won't have to yell at the tv by yourself! -)

marie said...

At the right? Mine appears at the bottom.

Anonymous said...

@marie, refresh the page

Anonymous said...

actually, for IE users out there, it might be displayed at the bottom, so if you don't see it on top scroll all the way down.

Anonymous said...

@ ivy,

Great idea! You are so right about yelling at the TV every once in a while. I was just roaring with laughter last night over Caffety.

Do it during 360. That is my on-line time anyway.

Anonymous said...

@ Ivy,

Sorry for the second post. I would like it if the live chat would stay on topic and not attack people.

Obviously there are folks that are in need of help reaching out to people now. The reaching out and discussion IMHO should be done in another forum. I don't believe all people's problems can be solved chatting on-line. Some folks are in need of one-on-one in person help. The internet IMHO can't offer that assistance to anyone -- addicted or not.

Just my 2 cents for what it is worth.

Cool idea! I would prefer chatting during 360, especially during commercial breaks! Plus, I think it would give us more topics to chat about!

Anonymous said...

first of all -no anons in the chatroom. Everybody would need to register, it's really easy. If you noticed most personal attacks come from anons, it's easier that way I guess. People who post as anons or just lurk here would need to take a nick. I mean for the chatroom, not in the blogger.

@press pass
As for staying on topic -it's something that's usually required for blog threads (and doesn't seem to happen here a lot -lol), so chat is more of a free flowing form. Attacking the logic of an argument is one thing, attacking a person is another. Personal attacks have no place on the blog or a chatroom.

Seems the idea of 360 live chat is supported, so we can do that every now and then. Those of us who like politics can have discuss that, especailly when debate time comes-) We can also have special topic gatherings. Let us know what interests you.

Lee said...

Sounds like a great idea. Maybe we can finally discuss politics or or other topics from the show without boring those who are only interested in Anderson.

Anonymous said...

great idea!
can we invite other people from another blogs to chat with us? like DL?

Anonymous said...

@lee I don' think many Anderson lovers would want to get n the chat because they don't want to hear anything unpleasant about the way AC or 360 handles a story. That's why I love to come here and vent my frustrations on he lack of 360 coverage Anderson and crew have given to NOLA.

courtney01 said...

I can't get the chat module to work.

Anonymous said...

Chats during the live 360 does work if you get enough people to participate. I think it's a great idea. Of course it works great on one of the AC blogs because they have a lot of contributers, but fell flat on another because of one reason or another people are too busy with watching the show to join it. I hope it works here if that ends up being the case.

Anonymous said...

@courtney it takes a few seconds to load. I know I had a hard time at first.

Anonymous said...

@anon 6:27 It's not a closed community, anybody can come, just be respectful and keep things civlized. btw, dl people already have dl, so doubt they'll be interested -)

@lee- -lol Well, this blog was never meant just for people you mentioned, that's why Nola blogger can feel free critisizing 360 or ac-) but the chat is really ment for fun. We can gather to discuss politics or current events, and we can gather to chat about lighter topics and gossip. Just don't forget this is no datalounge -lol

Anonymous said...

for all those wondering where anderson is, there's a post today in huffpo that briefly mentions ac as being in New Orleans

Anonymous said...

I like the idea of a live chat during AC360. Sometimes I get bored sitting here watching 360 by myself.
@Ivy
I really enjoyed the post today about AC in NOLA. Actually I thought the entire article was hilarious. Thanks for the shout out.

Anonymous said...

@9:01
I also thought it was funny, that's why linked it -)

****The chat is open!!! ****

freaks new feature has to be tested! Get a cup/glass/shot of something and join chris and me there -)

Anonymous said...

I can't get the module to work either. I've already registered, what's wrong?

Anonymous said...

He's not in New Orleans. He's still in New York.

Anonymous said...

Had a great time in chat last night. It's so nice to be able to vent your frustrations at AC & 360 without getting crucified by fangirls.

Anonymous said...

anon 3:46 am: how do you know Anderson is in New York? a blogger on huffing.com has him in NOLA

Seems like there'll be a serious shake up at CNN:

TvNewser reports NBC's Campbell Brown is deffinately joining CNN, Paula Zahn might lose her timeslot and Lou might be moved to a later time.

I guess we'll have to wait a week or two to see what happens -)

Anonymous said...

I would be surprised if Paula even keeps her job but that is just my opinion. I heard that talk about Campbell Brown now long ago and that Paula's contract ends this month.....if I'm wrong on that info I'll stand corrected

Anonymous said...

Did you notice that the AC360 Chicago Killings special has been changed to air at 8PM instead of 10PM? Hmmmm.....no Paula?

Anonymous said...

@3:28
Campbell Brown's contract ends at the end of June, haven't seen anything about Zahn's contract. Paula losing her show wouldn't be a surprise. What I don't get is they have such talent as Soledad, and replaced her with Kiran, now hiring Brown (who probably does know the differnece between "anesthetize" and "euthanize"), and that leaves little to no chance of Soledad having real exposure on cnn

Wolf showed a clip from Obama interview, Obama said that it's a good thing that chicago high-school kids murders are talked about and mentioned anderson did a good job. Is that kind of an apology? -) maybe he remembered anderson is hosting the debate next month -lol

@anonaba - what do you think about that?

Anonymous said...

I don't see that Obama has changed his tune. He's supported Richie Daley all along, which is to focus on both the positive and negative aspects of the city. Daley toots his horn by honoring teen success stories and acknowledging parents. He then flys off the handle with a load of questions and concerns to the parents of the teens that are failing themselves and the system. Obama's no fool. He's aware of the frequency of the Daley machines efforts to end vicious crimes. By Obama saying it's good to vocalize reports presenting Chicago's huge problem in a few streets on Chgo's south side, he's only endorsing that which is already in practice. If he apologizes to Anderson, he knows that Anderson will forgive him but he won't forget that Obama can touch on a nerve as easily as Anderson can. Daley spoke in front of a huge crowd of professionals today at the Daley Center. He's proud of the high number of bike riders to work, and the programs he put in action to make riding safer and easier. There was some talk amongst the crowd about the 360 special. I've yet to hear a soul grant AC's Chicago coverage kudos. Chicago tries its best to present both sides accurately and positively. Anderson failed on his 360 of that story. He didn't even try.

Anonymous said...

Anderson is enjoying his home in the Hamptons.

Anonymous said...

@anon8:43 that sounds about right. He probably spent the entire vacation sleeping and reading or visiting with his nephew Miles - that I would love to see.

Anonymous said...

@hi nola

the man deserves a vacation, whatever he's doing I hope he'll get rest and we'll have a better show to watch after that-) This summer is not starting as a quiet news cycle in any way

Anyone coming to chat

Anonymous said...

***those of you who tested the chat yesterday know it can be fun -) 360 is on so let's get together! Whoever couldn't make it yesterday join us now ***

Anonymous said...

Can't we move on from the Chicago controversy? Some like the coverage (me) and some don't. It may be time to just let it go.

There were a few sightings of Anderson in New York on Thursday.

Anonymous said...

Sightings of Anderson in NY Thursday? Seems he has already taped his Angelina interview since they show a bit of it last night. Did Larry King tape his interview with her in LA (since that is where he is) and then she flew to New York and be interviewed by Anderson? There was a sighting of Anderson in LA this week as well as in NOLA) but if anon 4:58 is basing your info on sightings posted on the net, who knows what to believe, but maybe he could have flown to all places, NOLA early in the week, straight out to LA to interview Jolie, then back to NY.

I wouldn't put it past Anderson the work horse to do all that.

sydney said...

Angelina was in NYC this week for The Daily Show, so it's possible that Anderson talked to her then. But I wouldn't put it past him to fly all over the country during his "vacation", either.

Anonymous said...

From another website, two Anderson sightings.

One more thing about the Chicago coverage, a poster said the following: I've yet to hear a soul grant AC's Chicago coverage kudos.

I mean, as you're aware, we had 28 Chicago schoolchildren killed this year on the streets during the school year, Chicago public school kids. Now, that's a tragedy that deserves attention. And, yet, despite some good work done by Anderson Cooper and yourself and others to highlight it, for the most part, it didn't break into the mainstream.

The above quote is from Barack Obama when he appeared on The Situation Room.

Watching Larry King's interview with Angelina - it looks like it was done in his studio in LA.

Anonymous said...

Larry King has a duplicate studio in NYC or it was a Chroma Key

Christian Amanpour will have a refugee day special on CNNI, featuring reufugee stories. Does Cnn America think Jolie is a better idea? I hope they'll show Amanpour's program here too.

I was surprised to see Nick Robertson in Chad, I wonder who they'll send to the region next -)

Anonymous said...

Thru the eyes of CNN, Angelina is such a huge draw in the US, which is sad. There are many other less celebratory figures with alot to contribute too, such as Christiane Amanpour.
There are areas such as the Delta region and all over the US that have outrageously poor Americans living without the comforts most of us take for granted. It doesn't take a hurricane, flood or tornado to produce destitute people. There are poor people all over America in dire need of help.

Anonymous said...

anonymousaba I agree. It's too bad that celebrities get all the credit for helping, including Anderson when there are more average every day people who work tirelessly to make the lives of people both here and abroad better. And some of those celebrities who do work, such as Mia Farrow, just do the work and don't ask for praise when they do it.

Can someone tell me why some people are so obsessed with celebrities and what they do.

Anonymous said...

I admire Christian Amanpour's work greatly (though she is a reporter, not doing this through charity). I would expect that she wouldn't give Angelina Jolie the time of day.

I lose a some admiration for Anderson Cooper and any other reporter who gives Angelina any kind of face time just so she can sell herself. I realize Anderson needs ratings and doesn't want to go the way of Aaron Brown and others and lose all the air time he gets in that anchor chair of his. Wolf Blitzer can say he will not have Paris on his show, and doesn't. That I admire.

4:57:

That is what I like so much about Wolf. He does a great show and Caffety too. Does anyone remember Caffety and Anderson in the morning? I do. It was a hoot to boot. Okay, now I am rhyming (sp?) so time to go!

I forgot about Jack! Wish he has his own show. Him and AC must have been great together. I doubt that can happen again, but maybe they should pair Cafferty with Dobbs -lol Dobbs puts me to sleep after 10 minutes regardless of the topic. Put them for 8pm, Dobbs will steal audience from Bill O and Jack from KO -)

@anon 4:57

Jolie was the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, therefore it shouldn't be surprising she's the one they are interviewing (among famous people). At least she used her celebrity status for something good. It's a different question why US audience needs a celebrity to connect with the story or pay attention to a problem.

@anon aba
I agree, we have a lot of problems here, that aren't on the surface and should be, though I don't think covering international issues is taking away from that. Ideally all should be put in context but context is something that's lacking more and more on CNN and other calbe news channels also.
