Is Anderson dancing with Murdoch or just being polite?

Hi everyone!
I've been under the weather lately, and my brains are less than functional lately... but here a sobering image of the Allen & Co. party in Idaho which was attended by top media executives and where Allen would be presenting their new WIFI and technology trends...which right now is the back bone of the communications industry.

News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch (L) talks to CNN's Anderson Cooper during lunch at the Allen and Co. conference at the Sun Valley Resort in Sun Valley, Idaho July 11, 2007. REUTERS/Rick Wilking (UNITED STATES)

Why would Anderson be there? I saw that his friends Dianne Von Furstenburg and her husband Barry Diller were there but is this something AC would cover or go to get a better deal than the one he has at CNN or to just network? Chris - what are your thoughts?

Anderson would never work at FOX.

The Sun Valley Idaho media conference is an event that Anderson has attended every year and it usually takes place the first week of July but I guess they changed the schedule. I don't think this means he's going to Fox just because he's talking to Murdoch, I bet they'd LOVE to have him though even though they talk about him like a dawg.

Hi Suz!
With all the administrative turmoil at CNN top management anything can happen. Just look what happened to Aaron Brown. Anything might happen. As long as Klein is on the helm, he is safe. If Klein is gone... might be another story. I think the Katie Couric experience is the best example of how the over hype of a journalist backfires. And that is something the marketing and research department at Time Warner must be looking close to.

I found the photo over Reuter services

anon 1:11PM,
I didn't find this picture, Freaks did. I saw one pic of Murdoch with his wife on Reuters, but nothing with Anderson.

Christiane: I agree with your comment. I feel there has been alot of over hype and marketing money spent on Anderson Cooper. And, correct me if I am wrong, but I think his ratings low. Paula Zahn's are low. Klein could be gone any day, or he could be around awhile.

You used the word sobering in the title of your post. Was it because Anderson was there with Murdoch?

Don't know how Anderson and other media people got there, by invite or whatever, but it certainly behooves him to network and not offend anyone and accept invitations. You never know when you who that next job will come from.

I believe Murdoch owns Harper Collins which is the company that published Anderson's book. Yup, schmooze.

Walton ( Time Warner's President) have publicly stated that he is worried about CNN US. It's just a matter of time.

Anderson was there to moderate a panel discussion. This from CNN.com

The other main event Thursday was a panel moderated by CNN's Anderson Cooper that featured Google (Charts, Fortune 500) co-founder Sergey Brin, Sony (Charts) boss Sir Howard Stringer and IAC's (Charts, Fortune 500) Barry Diller. The topic was content and strategy, and like all events here was closed to the press. Brin, however, after the presentation held court with the press and claimed that Yahoo!'s (Charts, Fortune 500) much publicized troubles - which culminated recently with CEO Terry Semel's ouster - were largely overblown in the media.

are you aware that we are only 3 degrees away of that event?

3 degrees like in the kevin bacon game?

6:46 thanks for info

How about "content and strategy" for his own show? If his show was thought out better, maybe there wouldn't be a big question mark now about ac360 destiny and the need to think about possible alternatives

AC is on tonight from LA. He looks really upbeat and is talking with Michael Ware about the report card on Iraq. Hopefully we will see a good show.
