Anderson Cooper: a journalist and a gentleman

From Janet Charlton's Hollywood ( yeah the one that posted the underwear story, and probably this one is also bogus, but at least is cute...)

ANDERSON COOPER: CHIVALRY IS NOT DEAD

Anderson Cooper flew his usual route from NYC to LA to work at CNN and the flight was crowded but he managed to get a first class seat. During the flight he happened to notice attendants talking to a very pregnant woman in coach who was obviously uncomfortable in the tight quarters. There were no empty seats to move her to so the chivalrous journalist offered to switch seats with her even though she was in coach. The woman was grateful and flabbergasted. Cooper proceeded to chat politely with his seatmates and he was friendly with the children. He even played with a toddler in the aisle for a few minutes before the flight attendant advised him to take his seat. A few passengers good-naturedly booed her.

YEAH RIGHT.

I think he'd certainly be a chivalrous gentleman without a doubt, that is not in question.

But that story is like... oh PUHLEEZE. What's going to come up next, he put his jacket over a pothole for a little old lady?? While violins played in the background?

OMG I think the funky mood I'm in from the insanity on the 360 blog has floated over here.

Anonymous said...

I agree. I think Janet is just making up for the ridiculous "showering in your undies" lie she starting about Anderson.

Anonymous said...

@jr

oh, you mean some gossip bloggers have conscience in their own special way? -)

Anonymous said...

This may or may not be true, but it sounds like something he'd do. Once on 360 he was interviewing a woman and it was cold, he took off his jacket and gave it to her. Good breeding as he says. The man was probably raised right.

Anonymous said...

@Ivy: Hmmm...didn't think about that. Good point. Gossip and conscience doesn't seem to go together do they?

Although I think Anderson would be fully capable of giving up his seat to a pregnant woman, I think this story is just as much a lie as the "showering in the undies" story was. Afterall, that's why it's called gossip, you never know what is true and what is not.

Anonymous said...

I'm skeptical about the story because most 1st class cabins usually have one empty seat for the relief pilot (at least that's how it is on long haul flights). Either way, I agree with the majority that Janet is playing good cop/bad cop on her site.

BTW, I'm a newbie too, great job reporting on all that's been going on this crazy day.

Anonymous said...

I think we're all agreeing:

(1) Yes, it sounds like something he would actually do, because of the person he is

but

(2) We're not believing it because of where the story originated

and

(3) We're not falling for the sweetness because it's highly obvious the woman is trying to undo what she did with the absurd "showering in the boxers" story.

Well I never believed that one anyway for a multitude of reasons.

Nice try with the pregnant-lady-in-the-airplane story.

O.K. I have to admit, I am still nauseous after watching Anderson and Erica last night. I think the two of them are so juvenile and last night was probably the worst I have seen.

Anonymous said...

Juvenile as in... acting like little kids? Giggling and laughing and telling jokes? Putting a real smile on Anderson's face?

What exactly is wrong with that?

Anonymous said...

Laying it on too thick to please the other andersites who complained like holy hell to CNN when Erica wasn't there and the Kirin Chetry and Randi Kaye chemistry wasn't there. It just seems more played up to me than prior to all the bitchin' that went on.

I realize that is what is nauseating me, it is nice to see Anderson smile and laugh.

Anonymous said...

Anderson drives a town car? I'll stick with my VW Passat

Anonymous said...

Yeeup, that's what I heard. I KNOW, huh?! Talk about making yourself seem old :) Actually maybe I should have suggested he get a Harley because I'm rather partial. Of course, a Maserati would be very cool, like I said. Midlife crisis, anyone?

Anonymous said...

A Harley motorcycle? Sorry, can't picture Anderson on a hog. He is too skinny, not strong enough.

Anonymous said...

DUDE, he could get a SPORTSTER. They're only like 500 pounds (that's what I've got). And that's not true anyway. I once saw a chick that was 5'2" on a FatBoy (what I used to ride) and it's 750 pounds with all the weight in the front- that's a HEAVY bike, that's all I gotta say!!

I can totally picture him on a Hog, lol. Gimme a break. Take your mind, dress him in leather (I personally look like I hijacked a cow), and then put him on the coolest bike on the planet. Some might say that would be a Ducati, but whatever. Anyhow... then put on the "I'm a stud face" and... can you see it now? I can. :D

Anonymous said...

Okay that does it. The moderator is STONED over there at CNN. I cannot believe the shit that got posted up on the 360 blog in the comments section. BOTH of mine did, and I was being a dumbass!!

Well at least I didn't insult anyone like that Phebe person did.

Now THAT was rude. Don't make fun of people names. I get made fun of a lot because my first name is Sharla Dawn... all of it. NO I'M NOT FROM OKLAHOMA!!! I hate that joke. It's not funny. I'm from CALIFORNIA!! Dude. Of course, I lost my Cali Valley girl speak from living in AZ for nine years, and now I seem to have a Jersey accent. Imagine someone with a Jersey accent saying "dude" "LIKE!!" and "totally"... that would be me :)

Seriously... go look at the 360 blog, on the post with the video on it. Not one of the freaking comments was about THAT... it all started with EM complaining about having dial up in their igloo up in Canada. WOW, after that, it got fucking hysterical. Go see if you haven't already.

Anonymous said...

OK, I can put Anderson on a Sportster or something, a pair of shades, one of those supertight t-shirts showing off his beefy pecs and arms, and he's good to go.

Anonymous said...

Guess he better wear his jeans and boots

Anonymous said...

The 360 board sure did open the floodgates to allow the comments to swoosh in. Newsjunkie, yours were best. The obnoxious comment made by "grandma" the moderator of that squee-blog where stalker boi hangs - very inappropriate.

I think he should drive a Benz! There are many models to choose from and not all look pretentious. They are also comfortable and very reliable. I love that you drive a Harley, newsjunkie. One of their dealerships is not far from my house. Whenever I driveby, I see a sea of leather jacketed hopefuls! Personally, I'm a wimp. I'm afraid to even sit on one.

Anonymous said...

Newsjunkie, YOU'RE reading my mind. Seriously. That Phebe is a grandma (you know, AGED) moderator over at the squee blog.

Anonymous said...

I've heard him say he wasn't into cars, which I why I didn't expect a Town Car, think they are somewhat pricey (well, at least for me!). They look like a car a limo service would use. Maybe he doesn't really own one but just gets delivered around in one to his various events?

Anonymous said...

Hmmm, a Benz. Thinking... yes, not bad. But not a Beemer. BLEH. And lots of people are afraid of motorcycles, don't feel bad. My sister rode up the street and back and screamed the whole time while squeezing the crap outta zee waist. YO, let go! Ya wanna crash?! But the fear most likely comes from the exposure- you're right out there, and if someone hits you, you're toast. Or mangled. Yay.

Thanks for the compliment anonymousaba. I've got a really weird sense of humor. That's probably why I like Anderson's- so does HE.

Anonymous said...

When did Anderson say he drove a town car? Am I missing something?

I didn't even think he HAD a car...but now that I think about it, that's just stupid of me. =P

(Good blog by the way. I don't know what everyone else is bitching about.)

Anonymous said...

It was in an interview awhile ago when he was talking about the Schizophrenic woman that was sitting in his car. Apparently right after that is when CNN got him a bodyguard.

Good idea.

Anonymous said...

Other unmentionable Anderson fan sites seem to be believing the airplane seating arrangement. I guess we believe the good stuff but not the bad stuff.

Anonymous said...

Well, like we all agreed, it is definitely something he WOULD do. But the plausibility of the story is doubtful, if you use your brain and think about stuff like that.

I'm trying to imagine him playing with a toddler in the aisle. Nope, can't do it. It's pretty funny every time he tries to talk to kids- you can tell he doesn't know how. For one thing, ANDERSON, you don't lean over when talking to them. Squat down and look them in the face :)

Anonymous said...

Yes, sound like something he would do but people don't always connect the dots and don't consider the source.

Playing with a kid on the plane? He would more likely be trying to sleep or work.

Heard him in an interview that he tried to stay at a family-oriented hotel but ended up leaving after one night he couldn't stand the kids. I realize, of course, no one loves your kids as much as you do, and not sure why Anderson did that. Not sure I would stay at a hotel with lots of kids if I was alone, but maybe it depends on what kind of place it was.

Hi Everyone!
Just stepping in for a second, we are having a lot of traffic lately (THANKS) but I think it is necessary to go over the Freak Rules...

Right now FreakSpeaker is one of the few blog/community completely open and unmoderated, we like it that way ( moderating is a pain in the butt and a nice soil for ego trips and power plays...)We encourage freedom of speech and everyone is entitled to their opinions.

But there are some rules:

1.No name calling
2.Please do not bash people who don't participate in this blog. Be aware that A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE READING
3.Everyone is entitled to its opinion, unless its a flame bite
4.We have got our fair share of blaming and finger pointing against this blog, PLEASE IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING AGAINST A BOARD OR BLOG DEAL WITH IT OVER THEIR SANDBOX, NOT HERE.
5. RESPECT, RESPECT, RESPECT

I know we have the entire rules posted somewhere... but that's it in a nutshell.

KEEP HAVING FUN!

MediaDoc said...

And FYI
why the board is not moderated?
I'M A BAD AND LAZY MOD!

Anonymous said...

thank you. We will play nice!

Anonymous said...

I actually can imagine him playing with a little kid for a few seconds. It's not like he has to sit next to it. Just maybe a "Hi little guy!" and a pat on the head. Even though he does seem awkward, he looks pretty great with little ones.

Anonymous said...

He's had kids on his show before and he seems to get a kick out of them. He said he wants a family one day.

Anonymous said...

Yes, he can play for a few SECONDS. So hopefully the kid you are playing with belongs to someone else and you can send it back.

Anonymous said...

anon 2:59- that made me snort water right out my nose.

I didn't say he didn't LIKE kids, I was saying he doesn't know what to do with them.

I have three boys, and let me tell you- other people's kids can drive ME nuts. I'm like, you- rein in those things that belong to you! I hate it when they're running around screaming and stuff.

Anonymous said...

Aren't I a stich? Send it back from whence it came. Is that correct grammar?

Anonymous said...

Looks like correct grammar to me :)

Anonymous said...

you should read the comments on that post at her blog. niiiiice. people are gross.

Anonymous said...

I believe Anderson used to have a motorcycle, in his college days

Anonymous said...

I know that.

Which is why I suggested it. Gave it to his professor or something, the rumor goes.

Anonymous said...

I find it interesting that Thomas Roberts departure from CNN didn't attract much attention.

Anonymous said...

I mean, the shower story attracted way more attention. I can't understannd why would it even matter if it's true or no and why it was the subject of discussion on many blogs.

Anonymous said...

ano 4:52: whose blog? what gross?

Anonymous said...

He used to have a motorcycle?!?!

And I thought I knew everything about Anderson.

Where the hell have I been?!

Anonymous said...

Go back to the main post this is about- the woman who wrote it has a blog. Google her, find this story, and read the comments. EW. Actually the comments on the shower story are even MORE disgusting. Thanks a lot for making me go look, anon 4:52.

Anonymous said...

I believe Anderson used to have a motorcycle, in his college days.

Anderson DID own a motorcycle in college. Upon his graduation he gave it to his row team coach. There was an article on line but I can't find it right now. Hopefully someone else will have the link and kindly post it.

Anonymous said...

Well, this isn't the article I was looking for, but it DOES mention the motorcylce everyone is suddenly interested in.

It also mentions his roommate, Peter Marks, who is not related to me although that is my maiden name (didn't revert after divorcing... maybe I should just change my name to... Smith). Bummer for you.

Anonymous said...

"Thanks a lot for making me go look, anon 4:52."

Do I detect a little attitude here?
:)

Anonymous said...

What? ME? ATTITUDE?

Um, no? lol (yeah right)

Lori Archibald said...

Hmmm....when did the blog name change from Freakspeakers to Anderson Cooper's Freakspeakers? Or has it always been Anderson Cooper's Freakspeakers and I just failed to notice.

Anonymous said...

@maddy -nothing wrong with your eyesight. The blog changed the name very recently

Anonymous said...

I still can't picture Anderson in a Town Car. Seems like such a stuffy car for him.

Anonymous said...

That's a Lincoln Town Car?

Anonymous said...

Did you all noticed that he talked AGAIN about STALKERS?
BTW: Tonight I saw the scariest Law & Order SVU. A stalker killed a reporter, and as soon as it finished I turned to 360 and there was Anderson talking about Stalkers.

I DON'T THINK THE STALKING IS FUNNY

Anonymous said...

@rudy
funny, I mentioned anderson bringing it up again in the previous thread. Stalking is not funny at all. He does seem to worry about it and for a good reason. Did you see his face expression when he asked how often it ends with violence? I don't watch L&O but might be interested to see this one.

Anonymous said...

The stalking segment on AC360 tonight was eerie. To think that Astronaut woman was waiting at the airport and then in a disguise...geezy weezy!

Then to think that there are probably dozens of people doing that same thing to Anderson just makes me speechless.

What's happening to the mental health of people these days?

Anonymous said...

Oh BTW, how about when Anderson called the calf in the "Shot" freaky? Perhaps that calf should be the new mascot for this blog! :)

Anonymous said...

@jr -I think the owner of the calf called it a freak -)

Anonymous said...

offtop I'm not a fox fan and tired of Don Imus topic, but I'm enjoying a debate between Al Sharpton and Don Imus's producer. Finally somebody is recalling Sharpton's past "sins" -)

Anonymous said...

@jr

I don't know about dozens, but a few different people in "andercommunity" mentioned here and there they wait around TW building in hopes of catching a glimpse of him. I would assume there are more that don't share it online.

Anonymous said...

I just watched 360 repeat of "the shot" - cnn cut out a comment anderson said after an awkward pause at the end of the Shot. Why would they do it? Last time I remeber them cutting something out was Bill Maher on LKL stating a particular politician is gay. At least that made some kind of sense.

Anonymous said...

Anderson seemed rather disturbed about watching that video of the astronaut stalking the other and the woman had no idea she was being watched.

I can see Anderson wondering how much this may happen to him. JR 12:02: yes who knows how many people wait around for him without his knowledge and another site even posted his home address on the internet whether or not it is his actual address, I can only imagine how many people may have shown up in that area waiting around for him.

I guess I can't forget what happened to John Lennon, as stalker who waited around for him for hours until he returned to his apartment building and shot him.

Anonymous said...

Okay, let's all freak Sharla out now :( I hate the thought of someone hurting Anderson.

Honestly I don't get it!!! Stalking... that I can partially understand because I study mental illness- basically it's an obsession that has pretty much taken over every aspect in their heads. But what has never made sense to me is the violence. Why they would want to hurt or even kill that person? For Christ's sake people....

Poor Anderson.

Anonymous said...

You guys realize that the airlines don't allow and doctors tell women in their 3rd trimester not to fly in case of premature birth. No woman is going to fly anywhere in coach while 9 months pregnant. The story is just that a story.

Besides Anderson wrote on the blog that he slept on the flight and you CAN'T sleep in coach and where are the reports on other blogs of other people who were on the flight? It didn't happen, just like the undies story.

marie said...

Sounds like that woman was trying to distract her viewers from the previous trainwreck. lol!
